The district administration focused on securing 75% employment of local candidates in the private sector. Bokaro is one of the four most prosperous districts in Jharkhand as it hosts steel, coal, cement, gas, power companies and hundreds of small and medium enterprises. The administration has taken steps to provide employment to local youth in participating companies and outsourcing agencies.

About 800 private companies and agencies operate in Bokaro, which the labour exchange has identified as employers. These companies have been given 15 days from Thursday to register with the Sub-Regional Labour Exchange, Bokaro or else be ready to face action, the officer said.

“So far 146 companies are registered with the labour office in the district and the rest have been asked to do the same within 15 days. The Employment Act 2021 and Employment Rules 2022 apply from 12 September 2022 across the state. The state government made this act or rule to provide employment to the people of the state, this must be followed. This will also curb the migration of people in the state,” said Kuldeep Chaudhary, Bokaro DC.

The Deputy Commissioner said that after the registration, the database of employees of the companies will be prepared in phases. All such employers and establishments employing 10 or more persons must provide employment to 75% of the local candidates out of the total number of available posts with gross monthly wages or wages up to Rs.40,000. Employers and establishments that fail to do so face a fine of up to Rs 5 lakh.
